Original press kit biography

Dana Dane biography, pp. 18-19. The kit contains this passage about Clark Kent rather than a separate Clark Kent biography. Transcribed from the circa 1987 Idol Makers press kit. The wording reflects the time it was written.

Dana's new D.J., Clark Kent. Clark started spinning at the age of 9 years after watching his uncle practice at home for his job as a D.J. in a Brooklyn Club. Before he became Dana's D.J., Clark spun at many New York clubs including the Famous Union Square in New York City. Clarks is rated by his peers to be one of the best at his skill. Watch Out....

Onstage with Dana Dane

Clark Kent joined Dana Dane's live act as the rapper moved from "Nightmares" to Dana Dane with Fame. In a later interview, Kent recalled the strength of their show and the records they had at the time, including "Nightmares" and "Delancey Street."

Production and design

Clark Kent went on to produce Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s "Player's Anthem" and three tracks on Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt, including "Brooklyn's Finest." His later credits included the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Sky's the Limit" and Mariah Carey's "Loverboy." These recordings carried his work from New York clubs into hip-hop and pop history.

His design work became another part of his legacy. Kent created the Brooklyn inspired "112" sneaker concept, named for the opening digits of Brooklyn ZIP codes, and worked with Nike on multiple shoes. The Nike SB "112" release also included a limited apparel capsule of T-shirts and a cap.

Clark Kent died on October 24, 2024, at age 58. His creativity, generosity, and influence are remembered by the artists and listeners whose lives he touched.
